Bridging a Cultural Divide

PURPOSE | The China Medical Board, a 100-year-old medical organization founded by the Rockefeller Foundation, sought to better engage Chinese policymakers, public health academics, medical students, and peer American organizations, in advance of its Centennial Anniversary.

CHALLENGE | While the organization benefited from strong credibility and name recognition among academics, leadership questioned how best to position the American-based organization among Chinese policymakers who were unclear of the organization’s influence and motives.

SOLUTION | Reassure critical government officials that CMB's work supported policy goals, providing a unique vantage point bridging Western-styled medicine with Eastern philosophies. To do this, my team:

IMPACT | CMB celebrated its 100th Anniversary in China with several new publications in partnership with the Lancet, a fundraising campaign, and importantly, a series of collaborative exercises with high-ranking Party officials.
